Jurgen Klopp grateful to have shot at Champions League redemption

Jurgen Klopp admits that he is spurred on to taste victory against Real Madrid on Saturday evening after losing his only previous Champions League final.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confessed that he is glad to have been given a second shot at winning a Champions League final, five years on from his previous attempt.

The German was in charge of Borussia Dortmund when they fell to a 2-1 loss at the hands of Bayern Munich at Wembley Stadium in 2013, going down to a late Arjen Robben strike.

Klopp is preparing his Liverpool side for Saturday's showpiece in Kiev and, having already surprised many by making it this far, the 50-year-old is now seeking redemption of sorts when taking on Real Madrid.

"I am pretty sure I was much more excited last time," he told reporters on the eve of the match. "Going to a Champions League final as a manager is pretty difficult to do so it is maybe a once in a lifetime chance and that is how I remember it felt at the time.

"After the game, I knew I wanted to have this opportunity again. It took a while but we are here because my boys gave me that chance again."

Klopp has won one of his previous six cup finals as a manager - Dortmund's 2012 German Cup victory against Bayern Munich.
