How Bayern Munich could line up against Real Madrid

Ahead of the second leg of the Champions League semi-final between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, Sports Mole looks at how the Bavarians could line up at the Bernabeu.

Bayern Munich will travel to the Santiago Bernabeu this evening knowing that they have a mountain to climb if they are to book their place in the final of the Champions League.

A 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Real Madrid in the first leg of their semi-final last week left the German champions needing to score at least twice in the Spanish capital to stand any chance of progressing.

Jupp Heynckes - a Champions League-winning coach with both Bayern and Real - will feel that his side still stand a chance if they are more ruthless than they were in the first leg, but it would still take an unprecedented comeback to do so; no team has ever overturned a 2-1 home first-leg defeat in the competition.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Bayern could line up as they bid to pull off a remarkable turnaround.

Predicted Bayern XI vs. Real Madrid
Out: Jerome Boateng (thigh), Arjen Robben (leg), Kingsley Coman (ankle), Arturo Vidal (knee), Manuel Neuer (fitness)
Doubt: David Alaba (thigh), Javi Martinez (head)

Bayern have been struck by an injury crisis at the most inopportune of times, with a host of key players ruled out of this evening's game as the depth of Heynckes's squad is stretched to the max.

Robben and Boateng joined the list of casualties during the first leg, while Martinez, Thomas Muller and James Rodriguez also picked up knocks at the Allianz Arena, although the latter three are all expected to start.

The good news for Bayern is that Alaba should be fit to return from a thigh injury after missing the first leg, while Thiago Alcantara and Niklas Sule are available to fill in for Robben and Boateng.

The likes of Robert Lewandowski, Franck Ribery, Muller and Rodriguez were all given the weekend off and should be fresh for their returns this evening, while Joshua Kimmich - goalscorer from the first leg - was taken off at half time of Saturday's game.
