Derek McInnes lauds David James's 900-game landmark

Bristol City manager Derek McInnes pays tribute to David James after the goalkeeper makes his 900th senior appearance.

Bristol City manager Derek McInnes has paid tribute to David James after the goalkeeper made his 900th senior appearance.

The 41-year-old stopper was unable to mark the occasion with a victory as two crucially-deflected shots earned Cardiff City a 2-1 win at Ashton Gate.

Despite the defeat, McInnes was full of praise for the 53-time England international and his teammates.

"David is an outstanding professional and hardly ever misses training, let alone a game," said the Robins boss.

"We so wanted to mark his 900th game with a win. The lads gave everything and to be beaten by two deflected efforts is hard to take.

"I'm disappointed by the result but not the performance. If the players continue to give that amount of effort we will get the points we need to be safe."

James began his senior career at Watford in 1988 and has since played for Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Ham United, Manchester City and Portsmouth.
