Jordan Henderson: 'Liverpool better without Philippe Coutinho'

Jordan Henderson claims that Liverpool are in a better place without former midfielder Philippe Coutinho, who was sold to Barcelona in January 2018.

Jordan Henderson has claimed that Liverpool are in a better place without former midfielder Philippe Coutinho, who was sold to Barcelona in January 2018.

The Brazilian failed to impress at Camp Nou and left for Bayern Munich over the summer, while Liverpool used the money from his sale to fund a move for Virgil van Dijk.

Henderson told Sport: "I thought that it was going to be a big loss for us, it would be for any team.

"But I felt it was a moment to take a step forward. The guys lifted their performances and we fixed things without him quite well."

The 27-year-old has been linked with a return to Anfield, but the club captain said that he feels the time has passed.

"The guys adore him, so if you ask any of them, I am sure they would say they would love to have him back. But I think his time here has passed, he's moved and I hope that in the near future we see the same Phil that we saw here," he added.

Liverpool are next in action on Monday against West Ham United.
