Liverpool have reportedly moved to secure the services of Joel Matip and James Milner past the end of this season.
Both players have featured on a regular basis under Jurgen Klopp, with Matip making 103 outings since July 2016 and Milner playing 181 times having spent a year longer at Anfield.
However, the duo have less than a year remaining on their respective contracts, putting Liverpool in a position where they must make a decision on their futures.
According to The Athletic, it has resulted in the Champions League winners expressing a desire to keep the pair on Merseyside until at least 2021.
While retaining Matip at the club should be a formality, the report hints that compromises may have to be reached with both parties in order for Milner to stay at Liverpool given his £120,000-per-week wage packet.
