Mainz 05 sack head coach Kasper Hjulmand

Kasper Hjulmand loses his job as head coach of Mainz 05 following a poor run of form in the Bundesliga.

Mainz 05 have decided to part company with head coach Kasper Hjulmand.

The Bundesliga club's board have taken action following a run of results that had seen Hjulmand's men win just one of their previous 13 outings.

"This relegation struggle now changes the criteria which has led to a change in coach," general manager Christian Heidel said in a statement.

"Hjulmand is a football expert who without doubt can develop teams, but the club have new priorities in the relegation battle."

Martin Schmidt, who had been in charge of the club's Under-23 side, has been confirmed as Hjulmand's successor.
