Manchester City's all-time record goalscorer Sergio Aguero reveals that he plans to leave the club at the end of next season in order to rejoin Independiente.

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has revealed that he plans to leave the club at the end of next season in order to return to Independiente.

Aguero joined City in 2011 and has since gone on to break the club's all-time goalscoring record, with his current figures standing at 179 goals in 265 appearances for the Citizens.

The Argentine has been linked with some of Europe's biggest teams during his time at the Etihad Stadium, but he revealed that his hope is to return to his boyhood club Independiente when his current contract expires in 2019.

"It came out that Milan and Real Madrid wanted me and - I don't know where I read it - but they said, 'They just spoiled Independiente's dream.' But the idea was always to go back to Independiente when my contract with City runs out in 2019," he told reporters while on international duty.

"I have an option to extend one more year with City where it's the priority but it's always an option. The idea is to go back. Now, I'm doing very well and hopefully we can win the cup, but it's not easy."

Aguero has won two Premier League crowns and two League Cups during his time at City, memorably scoring a last-minute title-winning goal in 2012.
