Manchester City will refuse to sell Ilkay Gundogan this summer even if he fails to agree a new contract, according to a report.

Manchester City will reportedly refuse to sell Ilkay Gundogan in this summer's transfer window even if the Germany international fails to agree a new contract at the Etihad Stadium.

Gundogan will see his current deal with the Citizens expire at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

Last month, it was suggested that the midfielder had put contract talks on hold as he 'looked for assurances over regular football'.

According to Sky Sports News, Gundogan will not be sold this summer as City would rather lose him on a free transfer at the end of next season than sanction a sale ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.

The midfielder has made more than 100 appearances since joining the Citizens from Borussia Dortmund in 2016.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a strong 2018-19 season, meanwhile, scoring six times and contributing eight assists in 50 appearances for Pep Guardiola's side in all competitions.
