Shay Given is expected to complete a move from Manchester City to Aston Villa within 24 hours.

Shay Given is close to finalising a £3.5m move from Manchester City to Aston Villa.

The 35-year-old has completed a medical at Villa Park and the deal is expected to be officially announced within 24 hours.

The West Midlands club have been on the lookout for a goalkeeper after Brad Friedel's move to Tottenham Hotspurs in June.

Villa defender Richard Dunne, who has played with Given at international level for the Republic of Ireland, told the Birmingham Mail: "I think it's a good opportunity for Shay and I think it's one he's really looking forward to."

Given, whose previous clubs include Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United, did not appear in the Premier League last season.
