Half-Time Report: Manchester United behind at Sunderland

Manchester United are behind at Sunderland after an early goal from Craig Gardner.

Manchester United find themselves 1-0 down against Sunderland after 45 minutes at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League.

David Moyes's men have created several good chances but poor defending has allowed Sunderland to be a constant threat on the counter-attack since their early goal.

United could not have wished for a worse start, going behind after just four minutes. Nemanja Vidic failed to deal with Emanuele Giaccherini's cross, allowing Craig Gardner to collect the loose ball and fire his side ahead.

Sunderland broke forward again moments later and only Phil Jones's last-ditch tackle prevented Gardner from squaring the ball for a tap-in.

The visitors improved after that, with Nani flashing a volley wide from Patrice Evra's cross and Adnan Januzaj firing just past the post from the edge of the box.

David de Gea then made a superb save to deny Giaccherini, clawing the ball wide when it already seemed to be in, before the Italian missed another good chance, firing over the bar just before the break.
