Paris Saint-Germain: 'If FFP didn't exist, Angel di Maria would be our player'

PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi believes that if Financial Fair Play didn't exist, Manchester United's Angel di Maria would be playing for the Ligue 1 side.

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al Khelaifi believes that if Financial Fair Play restrictions were not in place, Angel di Maria would be playing for the Ligue 1 giants.

The Argentina international was heavily linked with a move from Real Madrid to Parc des Princes last summer before eventually signing for Manchester United.

Reports claimed that Di Maria had initially set his sights on joining the French champions, but due to a breach of FFP rules, the club could not afford to buy him.

Instead, the 27-year-old left La Liga for the Premier League in a deal reportedly worth £59.7m, but there have been suggestions that Di Maria could leave Old Trafford after he and his family suffered a break-in at their Cheshire home.

This week, Al Khelaifi has fuelled speculation that PSG could still be interested in the Argentine by telling Le Parisien: "You can imagine that if FFP did not exist, Di Maria would be a PSG player right now."

Di Maria has not scored a league goal since October 5.
