Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Steve Sidwell says that staying in the Premier League is a "fantastic" achievement by the club.

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Steve Sidwell has lavished praise on his teammates after they guaranteed their Premier League survival with a 1-0 win over Manchester United.

The 35-year-old, who missed the game through injury, said that staying in the top flight is a "fantastic" achievement by the Seagulls.

"The majority of these players haven't played in the PL before, and to retain their status after the first year is fantastic," Sidwell told Sky Sports News.

"As you've seen tonight, a well-disciplined unit which limits the opposition to make errors, and as a team defensively you won't get much better than that."

Pascal Gross scored the only goal of the game in Brighton's win over United.
