Louis van Gaal given Football Association charge extension

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is granted a 24-hour extension to respond to a Football Association disrepute charge for comments made in January.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has been granted a 24-hour extension to respond to a Football Association charge of disrepute.

The 63-year-old now has until 6pm on Tuesday to explain comments made after the Red Devils' 0-0 draw away at FA Cup fourth-round opponents Cambridge United last month.

The FA claims that Van Gaal's comments "allege and/or imply bias on the part of the match referee and/or bring the game into disrepute".

When asked if he would be contesting the charge, the Dutchman told a press conference: "Of course I will. I have done nothing wrong.

"For nearly 30 years I have been a trainer, coach or manager, and I have never been charged. I never said anything wrong. I'm not angry, I'm disappointed."

The League Two side held United to a goalless draw at the Abbey Stadium, but the Premier League giants responded at Old Trafford by securing a 3-0 win in the replay.
