Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal to contest FA disrepute charge

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal reveals that he intends to contest the FA disrepute charge against him.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed that he intends to fight the Football Association's charge of disrepute against him.

The Dutchman was charged by the governing body after claiming that "everything" was against his team with regards to the pitch and the referee in their FA Cup tie against Cambridge United last month.

The League Two side held United to a goalless draw at Abbey Stadium, but the Red Devils responded at Old Trafford by securing a 3-0 triumph in the fourth-round replay.

The FA claims that Van Gaal's comments "allege and/or imply bias on the part of the match referee and/or bring the game into disrepute".

When asked if he will contest the charge, Van Gaal said: "Of course I will. I have done nothing wrong. For nearly 30 years I have been a trainer, coach or manager, and I have never been charged. I never said anything wrong. I'm not angry, I'm disappointed."

Van Gaal has been given until 6pm on Monday to officially respond to the charge.
