Team News: Chris Smalling returns for Manchester United

Chris Smalling recovers from an injury to start for Manchester United during their trip to West Bromwich Albion.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has been able to recall Chris Smalling for today's Premier League clash away at West Bromwich Albion.

The centre-back has not played for the Red Devils since February 22 because of a shoulder complaint.

However, he has now recovered to replace youngster Timothy Fosu-Mensah in the heart of the defence, while Matteo Darmian has been preferred to Guillermo Varela at right-back.

Michael Carrick has returned to the midfield at the expense of Morgan Schneiderlin and Jesse Lingard has also returned, which has seen Memphis Depay relegated to the bench.

Up front, teenager Marcus Rashford has retained his place, having marked his first three senior appearance in United colours with four goals.

Meanwhile, West Brom boss Tony Pulis has named an unchanged side from the one that earned a 2-2 draw away at league leaders Leicester City last time out.

That means that Saido Berahino and club-record signing Salomon Rondon will resume their partnership in attack.

West Bromwich Albion: Foster; Dawson, McAuley, Olsson, Chester; Yacob, Gardner, Fletcher, Sessegnon; Berahino, Rondon
Subs: Myhill, Anichebe, McClean, Pocognoli, Lambert, Pritchard, Sandro

Manchester United: De Gea; Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Rojo; Carrick, Herrera; Lingard, Mata, Martial; Rashford
Subs: Romero, Fosu-Mensah, Varela, Schneiderlin, Weir, Fellaini, Memphis
