Franz Beckenbauer hints at Mario Mandzukic's Bayern Munich departure

President Franz Beckenbauer concedes that competition for places may see Mario Mandzukic leave Bayern Munich in the summer.

Bayern Munich president Franz Beckenbauer has suggested that the club may be prepared to part with Mario Mandzukic during the summer.

The Croatian international scored 22 goals as Bayern won a treble of trophies last season, while so far this term he has found the net on 13 occasions.

However, Beckenbauer has admitted that the arrival of Robert Lewandowski from Borussia Dortmund could limit 27-year-old Mandzukic's starting opportunities.

"I see Lewandowski in the attack, his playing style is suited for Guardiola's ideas than that of Manduzkic," the Daily Star quotes Beckenbauer as saying.

"There are even more reasons why he could leave - even without him, Guardiola could still count on Thomas Mueller and Mario Gotze in attack."

Manchester United manager David Moyes attended Bayern's 2-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach last night, with Mandzukic believed to be one of the players who he was scouting.
