Rio Ferdinand to leave Manchester United

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is to leave the club after 12 years after they decided not to offer him a new contract.

Rio Ferdinand will leave Manchester United this summer after the club decided not to offer him a new contract.

The defender, who joined the club in 2002, is out of contract with the Old Trafford side this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, the club's chief executive Ed Woodward informed the 35-year-old of their decision following their final game of the season against Southampton yesterday.

BBC Sport says that Ferdinand plans to continue playing, but it is not known where he will be moving to.
