Manchester United 'to rival Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain for Gianluigi Buffon'

Manchester United reportedly consider an approach for 40-year-old Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon as a possible replacement for David de Gea.

Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to sign departing Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon this summer.

Buffon today played the final game of his 17-year stay at Juventus, although he is yet to confirm whether he will retire from the sport altogether.

A number of Europe's top clubs have been credited with an interest in the 40-year-old, with Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool among those thought to be lining up a bid.

Italian outlet Tuttosport reports that Manchester United have also contacted representatives for the player as they consider possible replacements for David de Gea.

Real Madrid continue to be heavily linked with a move for long-term target De Gea, who was on the verge of returning to the Spanish capital in 2015.

Buffon was afforded a guard of honour when he was subbed off during his 656th and final game for Juventus this afternoon.
