A report claims that the likes of David de Gea and Juan Mata have been left in limbo as Manchester United weigh up whether to sack manager Jose Mourinho.

A dozen Manchester United players have reportedly been left sweating over their futures because of Jose Mourinho's precarious position at Old Trafford.

United chiefs are supposedly prepared to give the 55-year-old another week to prove that he is the right man to get the club back on track, having made their worst start to a season in close to 30 years.

The Mirror suggests that, as a result of the ongoing uncertainty over Mourinho's job, the Red Devils' transfer business is being jeopardised.

That is because David De Gea, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata, Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia are all into the final year of their deals, while Matteo Darmian, Andreas Pereira and James Wilson are also walking a contract tightrope.

A handful of those players have the option of an extra 12 months in their existing terms, but United would prefer to tie them down for longer, which is proving difficult at the present time.
