Tom Taiwo headed the visitors into a 23rd-minute lead, but Michael Higdon got the home side level early in the second half with a header of his own.

James McFadden then put Motherwell ahead with 54 minutes on the clock when he danced past two defenders before slotting in.

The hosts extended their advantage in spectacular fashion in the 67th minute as Kallum Higginbotham found the bottom corner with an acrobatic volley.

The victory was sealed late on thanks to Tom Hateley's deflected effort from 20 yards.
