The Senegal forward broke the deadlock on 19 minutes with a low drive from 10 yards, following a sensational assist by Hatem Ben Arfa.

Newcastle should have doubled their advantage in stoppage time after Steve Morison fouled Mike Williamson in the penalty area.

However, Papiss Cisse, who has yet to score this season, took the spot-kick and blasted it over the bar.
