Newcastle Unite rename St James's Park the Sports Direct Arena.

Newcastle United will rename St James's Park the Sport Direct Arena.

Club owner Mike Ashley, who also runs the SportsDirect.com company, has made the decision along with managing director Derek Llambias, according to The Mirror.

The businessman first announced plans to rebrand the stadium in 2009, with the name SportsDirect@St James's Park used.

However, the club will now scrap the 120-year-old name of the stadium in a move which is likely to anger Newcastle fans.

The move is hoped to attract investors to put their name on the ground.
