Alan Pardew insists that Newcastle deserved to beat Blackburn last night, despite some luck.

Alan Pardew has said that Newcastle United were deserving of all three points following their 2-0 win at Ewood Park last night.

The Magpies took an early lead through Ryan Taylor's deflected strike, before Gabriel Obertan's first goal for the club sealed the points in the closing minutes.

However, the Newcastle boss insists that his side made their own luck on the night.

"To get a clean sheet is a fantastic achievement," he told the club's official website. "To get two goals on top of that has put us fifth in the division and above teams like Arsenal and Liverpool

"You need the breaks – a deflected goal and a little bit of luck with the chances that Blackburn had. You need that at times.

"We got it tonight and perhaps we deserved it. We put our bodies on the line."

Newcastle will next welcome Aston Villa to the Sports Direct Arena this weekend.
