Paul Dickov's Oldham Athletic took full advantage of the wet conditions at Boundary Park to record a 2-1 victory over MK Dons this evening.
The visiting Dons had been in good form in recent weeks and created the first chance of the match after five minutes. Angelo Balanta found former Manchester United winger Luke Chadwick inside the area but he shot straight at home goalkeeper Alex Cisak.
Both sides found goalscoring chances hard to come by and the players looked to be heading into the break with the game goalless.
However, a slip from Dons keeper David Martin on the wet surface after 43 minutes allowed Shefki Kuqi to steal in and score into an empty net.
Dons responded positively after the restart, with Balanta going close following a chested pass from Clinton Morrison.
It would be the home side that would claim the all-important second goal though, courtesy of Tom Adeyemi. The Norwich City loanee held off a challenge from Mathias Kouo-Doumbe to slot past Martin from a narrow angle in the 56th minute.
Dons striker Morrison ensured a nervy finish for home side when he turned in Anthony McNamee's low cross to halve the deficit with five minutes remaining.
The goal proved to be little more than consolation though as Oldham held out for just their second win in 15 home matches.
