Half-Time Report: Scunthorpe United ahead against Crewe Alexandra

Scunthorpe United are a goal up against Crewe Alexandra at Glanford Park following an early strike from Irish striker Paddy Madden.

Scunthorpe are a goal to the good in their home tie against Crewe Alexandra.

Tom Hopper made space for himself among the Crewe defence and his cross found Paddy Madden, who headed past Steve Davis from three yards out.

Hopper was again involved in attack as he laid a ball off to Neal Bishop, only to see the midfielder fire wide from the edge of the area.

Thirty-three-year-old Gary McSheffrey struck the bar in the 27th minute after controlling a cross-field ball.

Scunthorpe continued to press and Crewe keeper Ben Garrat saved well in the 35th minute from goalscorer Madden.
