Preview: Seattle Sounders vs. Dallas - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Major League Soccer clash between Seattle Sounders and Dallas, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Seeking to pick up a third win on the spin for the first time since November 2020, Dallas take a trip to the Lumen Field to take on Seattle Sounders on Tuesday.

The Sounders, who suffered a third consecutive away defeat last time out, will be looking to quickly return to winning ways and move back into the top half of the Western Conference standings.

Seattle Sounders were sent crashing down to earth in the MLS as they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Los Angeles FC when the sides squared off at the Banc of California Stadium on Saturday.

After falling behind courtesy of a 14th-minute own goal from Colombian defender Jesus Murillo, the hosts quickly hit back with a 35th-minute leveller from Kwadwo Opoku before Carlos Vela netted two minutes away from the interval to turn the game on its head.

Prior to that, Brian Schmetzer's men snapped their three-game losing streak on July 24, when they fought back from behind to claim a hard-earned 2-1 victory over Colorado Rapids courtesy of goals from Jordan Morris and Nicolas Lodeiro.

Seattle Sounders have now picked up nine wins, two draws and lost 11 of their 22 games this season to collect 29 points and sit ninth in the Western Conference standings, two points off seventh-placed Portland Timbers in the final playoffs spot.

The Rave Green will be backing themselves to bounce back and grab the desired results as they return to their home turf, where they are unbeaten in all but one of their last 17 games against Tuesday's visitors, claiming 13 wins and three draws in that time.

Elsewhere, a rejuvenated Dallas side made it two wins from two for the first time since April as they narrowly saw off LA Galaxy 1-0 at the Toyota Stadium on Sunday morning.

Despite being on the back foot for most of the game and seeing less than 40% of the ball possession, Franco Jara came up trumps for the hosts as he scored the only goal of the game to condemn Greg Vanney's men to their 10th defeat of the season.

This followed a similar 1-0 victory away to Real Salt Lake on July 24, when 21-year-old Jesus Ferreira netted in the 14th minute to see off the Claret and Cobalt to end Dallas' run of seven consecutive matches without a win.

With 35 points from 23 games, Nico Estevez's side are currently fourth in the Western Conference table, level on points with third-placed Minnesota United and 13 off Los Angeles FC at the top of the pile.

Team News

Seattle Sounders will be without the services of Peruvian forward Raul Ruidiaz, who is set to sit out his fourth game on the bounce through a hamstring injury.

He is joined on the Rave Green's injury table by the midfield duo of Obed Vargas and 31-year-old Joao Pedro, who have been ruled out through back and ACL injuries respectively.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old defender Lucas Bartlett remains out of contention for Dallas as he continues his return to full fitness after suffering a broken rib back in May.

Off the back of two consecutive clean sheets, we could see an unchanged back four of Ema Twumasi, Matt Hedges, Jose Antonio Martinez and Marco Farfan shielding Maarten Paes in goal.

At the opposite end of the pitch, Ferreira has been a standout performer for the Burn this season and the American forward, who has registered 17 goal involvements in 23 appearances, will certainly be one to look out for.

Seattle Sounders possible starting lineup:
Frei; Roldan, Gomez, Arreaga, Tolo; Roldan, Rusnak; Medranda, Lodeiro, Morris; Bruin

Dallas possible starting lineup:
Paes; Twumasi, Martinez, Hedges, Farfan; Arriola, Cerrillo, Pomykal, Velasco; Ferreira, Jara

We say: Seattle Sounders 1-1 Dallas

While Seattle Sounders will be looking to return to winning ways, they face a resurgent Dallas side who are on a run of two consecutive victories. However, the Burn have struggled at the Lumen Field, managing just one win from their last 17 visitors. We predict that both sides will cancel out each other's efforts and settle for a share of the spoils in this one.
