Huddersfield Town, Sheffield Wednesday share points

Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday play to a goalless draw in the Championship.

Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday have shared the points after playing to a goalless draw in the Championship this afternoon.

The visitors had a chance to open the scoring early on when Jacques Maghoma sprinted towards the Huddersfield box, but Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Stevie May had a communication error which prevented the latter from taking a shot.

After the Owls had the majority of the opportunities in the opening half-hour, the hosts started to see more of the ball just before the break, but Harry Bunn's header failed to stretch Keiren Westwood.

Sean Scannell tried to set something up for Huddersfield just before half time, but his dangerous-looking cross was not met by any of his teammates.

The visitors applied the pressure again after the restart as May sent in a high cross for Taylor-Fletcher, but his strike partner could not reach it at the back post.

The Scottish international took a shot on himself shortly after, controlling a high ball while beating an offside trap, but his finish was straight at the keeper.

Royston Drenthe came close to opening the scoring inside the final 25 minutes when a counter-attack led by Maghoma left the midfielder to take on a shot from the edge of the box, but Joe Murphy kept it out.

The hosts brought on Nakhi Wells as they looked for a late winner, and the striker almost had an immediate impact, forcing a save from Westwood less than a minute after coming on.

Wednesday were soon causing problems down the other end again, and had the best chance of the match when Maghoma picked out May, who beat Murphy only to see his shot come back off the bar.

Wells could have clinched all three points for Huddersfield late on, but he smashed the ball straight into the hands of Westwood, while Murphy had to deny Drenthe in stoppage time.

The result leaves Wednesday 13th in the table, while Huddersfield are one place back.
