Ronald Koeman delighted with Southampton response to Europa League exit

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman admits that he was elated by his side's reaction to their Europa League exit as they cruised past 10-man Norwich City.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has revealed that he was delighted with his side's response to their Europa League exit as they defeated Norwich City 3-0 in their Premier League clash.

The Saints crashed out of Europe on Thursday at the hands of FC Midtjylland, but bounced back to record their first top-flight win of the campaign thanks to a brace from Dusan Tadic and a strike from Graziano Pelle.

"Of course we needed a win after Thursday. We had to show a reaction," Koeman told the club's official website. "I think we did that from the start in the game.

"We were aggressive and attacking and creating some good chances. Of course the 11 against 10 situation has an impact on the game but also before we were dominant.

"We kept the spirit in the team, the tempo and when we lost the ball there was good pressing. We didn't give them any chance until maybe one at the end. That was the team performance what we like to have. It was a good reaction."

Southampton are 10th in the Premier League after four matches this season.
