Harry Kane: 'We all have to fight for places'

England striker Harry Kane insists that every player has to fight for their place in Roy Hodgson's starting XI at Euro 2016.

England striker Harry Kane has insisted that no player is guaranteed a place in Roy Hodgson's starting XI at Euro 2016.

The Tottenham Hotspur man appears to be leading the race to start up front having won the Premier League's Golden Boot with 25 goals this season, making it 32 for the season for club and country during England's 2-1 win over Turkey on Sunday.

However, he faces competition from 24-goal Jamie Vardy, who also scored at the Etihad Stadium, while captain Wayne Rooney has scored more times for the Three Lions than any other player in history.

"When you have got a pair of strikers who have scored 25 and 24 Premier League goals it shows that we have top strikers," he told reporters.

"We both scored again on Sunday and scoring is a good habit to have. We are up there, we are confident, we are both scoring goals and long may it continue. Obviously Wayne has been doing great in that deeper position, but we've all got to fight for places.

"There are a lot of good midfielders and a lot of good strikers so there are a lot of options in those positions so the manager will do what he wants to do."

Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge and Manchester United youngster Marcus Rashford make up the five strikers in Hodgson's preliminary 26-man squad for the tournament.
