Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has revealed the circumstances behind his recent heart operation that caused him to miss Spurs' 1-0 loss to Rubin Kazan last night.

Speaking to The Sun, Redknapp said that he suffered pains in his chest while exercising on a running machine.

"I had hardly got going when it went tight and I was struggling to breathe," Redknapp said.

"As soon as that happens you know the best thing to do is stop immediately, which I did. I wasn't that frightened if I'm honest but it was clearly a warning sign from within.

"I've had narrow or blocked arteries for some time. I've been taking tablets for it just like a lot of people my age do. It's no big thing."

The 64-year-old said that he will rest for the next "couple of weeks", but insists that he has no plans to retire.

"I love my football and won't be walking away any time soon. I can assure everyone I'm doing okay."

Tottenham's caretaker bosses Joe Jordan and Kevin Bond are likely to oversee their Premier League clash with Fulham this weekend.
