Ryan Mason begins his coaching role at former club Tottenham Hotspur, as the 26-year-old embarks on a new challenge following his career-ending head injury last year.

Ryan Mason has started his coaching career with his former club Tottenham Hotspur.

The 26-year-old was forced to retire after enduring a fractured skull in a collision with Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill in January of last year.

The ex-England international has been helping with all different age groups in the Spurs academy voluntarily, and Mason is finding his new journey pleasurable.

"I'm enjoying it. I've been in a couple of weeks now and it's a great thing to be starting a new chapter," Mason told the club's official website.

"I'm fortunate enough to be in a position where the club have offered their help so it was a no-brainer to come back in and get cracking with my badges. At the moment I'm just observing as much as I can.

"If you were to say 'would I be a manager [one day]?' I don't know. It's just a case of coming in, finding the path and seeing where I want to go with it all. I'm loving being back out there and being involved in football - especially here as well because it's all I've known for so long. It's good to be back home."

Mason made 70 appearances for Tottenham, before ending his playing career at Hull City.
