Andre Villas-Boas believes that Tottenham Hotspur must use the festive period to build a gap over their rivals for a Champions League place.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has insisted that his side must keep their positive run going over the busy Christmas period.

Spurs moved level on points with third-placed Chelsea this afternoon thanks to a narrow victory over Swansea City at White Hart Lane.

Villas-Boas believes that his team can use the next few weeks to steal a march on their Champions League rivals and cement their position as top-four contenders.

He told talkSPORT: "We have to keep going. I think we're just doing our job at the moment. We want to run away from the pack that is behind us a little bit.

"The Premier League is very tight from fourth down to tenth. We want to join the top four but we need a consistent run and I think it will be important for us to continue on this run in the Christmas period."

Spurs face Stoke City next weekend before travelling to in-form Aston Villa on Boxing Day in a full festive programme.
