Tim Sherwood: 'Jermain Defoe can still play for England at World Cup'

Tim Sherwood says that Jermain Defoe can still play for England at the World Cup despite his pending move to Toronto FC.

Tim Sherwood believes that the improved standard of the MLS means that Jermain Defoe is still in with a chance of going to the World Cup with England this summer.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker will move across the Atlantic to join Toronto FC at the end of February.

"I think we have to give a bit more credit to the MLS. I don't think it's a c*** league," Sherwood said to reporters.

"I think it's okay. Jermain needs to play regularly and he sees that as the place where he will get it.

"I am sure playing in the MLS won't hinder him from being in the England squad. Wherever he plays he will score goals."

Defoe came off the bench to score the second goal as Spurs beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at White Hart Lane in the Premier League on Saturday.
