Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has insisted that Jack Rodwell will improve following a disappointing start to life at the Stadium of Light.
Rodwell has struggled to hold down a place in the team since moving to the Black Cats from Manchester City for £10m, but Poyet is hopeful that the hectic winter schedule will bring out the best in the 23-year-old.
"He's been listening more, watching more and when something important happens in a game, we're showing him what he can do," the Uruguayan told reporters.
"I think we're challenging Jack to take a very important role, to be the difference between a normal team and a better team.
"We need a bit of consistency for him to get there, so it's a challenge but I'm relaxed about it."
