Chico Flores: 'Survival priority for Swansea City'

Chico Flores admits that Swansea City's European commitments have seen them dragged into a relegation scrap, but insists that they have the quality to beat the drop.

Chico Flores has insisted that Swansea City have the ability to get out of the relegation scrap that their European commitments have seen them dragged into.

The Welsh outfit have already played 33 games this season due to cup and continental commitments and face further fixture pileups as they remain in the FA Cup and Europa League at the last-32 stage.

However, Chico has now stressed that their focus must be on Premier League survival, although the Spanish defender has hinted that the quality of football the Swans play means that they are too good to go down.

He told The Telegraph: "The main goal is to remain in the Premier League. Last season was really good but it was always going to be difficult to maintain that. It's been complicated because of the Europa League and with a lot of players injured, but now we will start getting the results and the points we need.

"Swansea's style of football matches with my style. Swansea is not a famous team but it was an attraction for me that a more modest team, so to speak, plays in this way. I'm a defender but I like the way we keep the ball and the kind of football we play sits very well with me. I want to play the ball and also attack and go forward.

"We are one of the better footballing teams in the league and do well against better teams because of the way that we play. It's top-class football."

Michael Laudrup's side are three points clear of the relegation zone ahead of Tottenham Hotspur's visit on Sunday.
