Garry Monk frustrated with Michu's injury problems

Swansea City boss Garry Monk admits that he is disappointed that he hasn't been able to pair Wilfried Bony and Michu together as often as he'd like this season.

Swansea City boss Garry Monk has admitted that he is frustrated that he hasn't been able to pair Wilfried Bony and Michu together for an extended period this season.

Michu, who was the Swans' top goalscorer last season, has missed a large part of the season with an ankle injury, which has restricted him to just two goals in 17 Premier League appearances.

As a result, Swansea have had to rely on club-record signing Bony to provide the fire power and he has delivered with 24 goals in all competitions.

However, Monk has revealed his disappointment when it comes to starting both Michu and Bony in the same side.

"He's (Bony) got two more games to score some more, which I know he'll want to be doing," Monk told reporters. "He's already talked about taking it into the World Cup and hitting the ground running there, but it's been difficult with the season Michu's had - being in and out of the squad with niggly injuries - and Bony's stepped up to the plate.

"It's a shame we haven't seen more of the pair of them together. A fully fit Michu and a fully fit Bony would be a handful for any defence.

"It's not just his goals, it's the way he is. He's a great character around the boys, he's a leader, he works hard and leads the team like that."

Swansea secured their Premier League safety with a 4-1 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.
