A late goal from Jonas earns Valencia a 2-1 win at home to Real Valladolid in La Liga.

A late goal from Jonas has earned Valencia a 2-1 win at home to Real Valladolid in La Liga.

The result has seen Ernesto Valverde's side move up to fifth place in the table with eight games left to play.

The hosts were ahead at the break when Mikel Balenziaga turned the ball into his own net from a corner on 39 minutes.

Valencia could have made it 2-0 on the hour mark, but Roberto Soldado's penalty was saved by Dani Hernandez after Henrique Sereno was shown a red card for his foul on the striker.

The visitors thought that they had earned themselves a point with 20 minutes to play when Oscar fired powerfully into the top corner from inside the area.

However, Jonas met Joao Pereira's cross in injury time to thump his header past Hernandez and give Valencia the win.
