David Moyes admits that West Ham United "didn't play well" in Sunday's 4-1 home loss to Manchester City but insists that his side can survive relegation.

David Moyes has acknowledged that West Ham United "didn't play well" in their 4-1 loss to Manchester City but insists that his side can survive relegation from the Premier League.

The Hammers were run ragged at the London Stadium as Leroy Sane, Gabriel Jesus and Fernandinho scored for the Citizens, with Declan Rice also netting an own goal.

Indeed, Yaya Toure completed more passes than any of the West Ham players despite playing for just 19 minutes, but despite the poor performance and a three-point gap between the club and the bottom three, Moyes remains optimistic.

"We didn't play well today," Moyes told BBC Sport. "There are reasons for that, and also the quality of Manchester City. We didn't do things as well as we should. You need things to go for you and a bit of good fortune when you play a team like Manchester City.

"We grew into the game. I thought we did it better in the last 15 mins of the first half. You need to have the quality of all-round top defenders if you are do things further up the pitch. The big thing is to try to win the next game.

"When we came in we were in the bottom three, we're not now. There's other teams who would rather be in our position. We are good enough to win another game at least and let's hope we can do that."

Under Moyes, West Ham have shipped three or more goals in a single game on nine separate occasions.
