Wigan Athletic midfielder Nick Powell has expressed his belief that Scott Carson is good enough to play for England.
Carson helped his side to a 3-1 win over Maribor this evening, a match that saw Powell net a brace as Wigan won their first ever home European game.
The 28-year-old, who has four England caps to his name already, was left out of Roy Hodgson's latest squad, but Powell believes that he would have been included had he been playing his football in the top flight.
"If Scott Carson was in the Premier League he'd be in the England squad," Powell is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
Powell, who was praised by Owen Coyle before the match, also joked that any compliments he received from his manager wouldn't go to his head due to an inability to understand his accent.
"I can't understand him, so I wouldn't know. I've just come back from an operation, so I'm taking it game by game," he added.
The result leaves Wigan second in Group D having picked up four points from their opening two games.
