Andy Robinson is to be appointed Bristol's new director of rugby.
The former England coach quit his job as Scotland boss in November after seeing his side lose to New Zealand, South Africa and Tonga in the Autumn Internationals.
The Championship club are expected to announce at a news conference on Monday that current coach Liam Middleton will continue his role, with Robinson beginning his employment at the end of the season.
The popularity of the decision within Bristol's fanbase remains to be seen as Taunton-born Robinson spent his entire playing career at their local rivals, Bath, winning eight England caps.
The former Premiership club are desperate to regain their top-flight status after losing out in the final stages of the playoffs twice in the last three years.
