Andy Murray battles to win over Philipp Kohlschreiber

Andy Murray records a 6-4 3-6 6-0 victory over Philipp Kohlschreiber to earn a place in the third round of the Madrid Open.

Andy Murray produced a dominant third-set display to claim a 6-4 3-6 6-0 victory over Philipp Kohlschreiber in the second round of the Madrid Open this evening.

Just a few days after beating the German in the Munich Open final, Murray was quickly enjoying success against his rival once again as he broke twice inside the opening three games to take control.

Kohlschreiber recovered to reduce the deficit, but Murray proved to be too strong in the longer rallies on the way to wrapping up the opener.

The second set committed too many errors early in the second set, and Kohlschreiber capitalised to earn a break, despite looking short of the form which took him to the final in Germany.

Murray managed to break back before Kohlschreiber quickly cancelled out the response and served out to get back on level terms.

Hopes of a thrilling final set were quickly dashed by Murray, who converted a break point at the third attempt in the second game.

Kohlschreiber failed to offer any resistance as the decider progressed, and Murray played some of his best tennis to break twice more before clinching the win.
