Milos Raonic eases into Japan Open quarters

Milos Raonic proves too strong for Jurgen Melzer, recording a 6-4 6-3 victory over his opponent to book a spot in the quarter-finals of the Japan Open.

Milos Raonic has booked his place in the quarter-finals of the Japan Open courtesy of a straight-sets victory over Jurgen Melzer.

The world number eight came through the contest 6-4 6-3 in a time of one hour and 15 minutes to overcome his lowly-ranked opponent in Tokyo this morning.

The first set went the way of serve until the 10th game, when Raonic earned a break of serve to finally put the tightly-fought opener to bed.

Melzer lost serve on two occasions in the second set, allowing his Canadian opponent to power ahead and wrap up the match with relative ease.

Raonic will now face either Denis Istomin or Taro Daniel in the next round.
