Heather Watson: 'I had packed my bags before mixed doubles call'

Great Britain's Heather Watson says that she had already packed her bags for home before she gained entry to the mixed doubles alongside Andy Murray.

Great Britain's Heather Watson has admitted that she was preparing to leave the Olympic Games before gaining a late entry into the mixed doubles.

Watson and Andy Murray initially missed out on the draw and were instead named as second alternates but late on Thursday, the pair were told that they were being drafted in to face Spain's David Ferrer and Carla Suarez Navarro.

They then eased past their opponents to reach the quarter-finals, and Watson has said that she is relishing the opportunity to continue her stay in Brazil.

The 24-year-old told BBC Sport: "I genuinely had all my stuff packed, I had no idea, wasn't sure if we'd get in and then just got told, 'Get your kit on, you're on'.

"I really do enjoy mixed doubles I enjoy the variety and trying to return the guy's serves, all of it."

Fourth seeds Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza stand in their way in the last eight.
