Greg Rusedski: 'Heather Watson should have defeated Lauren Davis'

Greg Rusedski believes that Heather Watson would have beaten Lauren Davis at the US Open if she had showed more aggression.

Greg Rusedski believes that Heather Watson will be "bitterly disappointed" with her performance against Lauren Davis in the US Open first round.

Watson succumbed to a 7-6 7-6 defeat to the American but Rusedski, who has formed part of the British number one's coaching team this year, has insisted that she could have won the match had she adopted a different mindset.

The 41-year-old told Sky Sports News: "It is a match she should have won.

"She wasn't confident. She wasn't willing to come forward enough. If she had come forward and taken a few more risks there, she might have turned that match around. She will be bitterly disappointed."

The setback for Watson means that she is still without a win at Flushing Meadows since turning professional.
