Giles Simon has booked a third-round clash with Mardy Fish at the US Open with a four-set win over Jimmy Wang.
The Frenchman made a bright start and took the opening set 6-4, but Wang was not ready to roll over and made the match all square in the second set by the same scoreline.
Simon kept the 6-4 theme going to secure two very tight sets under constant pressure to earn a hard-fought victory.
The 16th seed will now face home crowd favourite Fish in the last 32 after he overcame Nikolay Davydenko in a five-set thriller earlier on Thursday.
