Thomas Vermaelen keen to focus on positives

Thomas Vermaelen insists that Arsenal still have plenty to play for this season following Tuesday's Champions League exit against Bayern Munich.

Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen has insisted that the team's season is far from over following Tuesday's Champions League exit against Bayern Munich.

The Gunners were beaten 3-1 on aggregate by the defending champions after earning a 1-1 draw in Germany.

Despite being knocked out of the competition, Vermaelen now wants his teammates to have a strong finish to the season in both the Premier League and FA Cup.

"The result [against Bayern] wasn't great for us to go through, but you always need to take the positives out of it," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"We are still up there in the Premier League, we are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, you can feel the desire in the team that there is still something to play for."

Arsenal are back in action on Sunday when they face local rivals Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in the Premier League.
