Brighton & Hove Albion end Shamir Fenelon's loan at Rochdale

Shamir Fenelon's season-long loan at Rochdale is brought to an end by parent club Brighton & Hove Albion because he wasn't playing enough.

Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion have recalled Shamir Fenelon from his seasong-long loan at Rochdale because he wasn't playing enough.

The 20-year-old striker made his Brighton debut by starting in the season-opener against Sheffield Wednesday but was soon loaned out at the end of August after falling down the Seagulls' pecking order.

He has since started just once - in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy - for Rochdale and featured from the bench only four times for the League One club.

"Due to a lack of playing opportunities we have decided that it is in the best interest of Shamir's progression to come back to Brighton," Brighton head of football operations David Burke told the club website.

"On the back of a good pre-season we had a number of league clubs enquire about Sham, but unfortunately the move to Rochdale hasn't proven as fruitful as we would have wanted.

"This is not down to Shamir, he has merely fallen victim to a side that are not only winning games and on good form, but also scoring a lot of goals, so it is hard to break into a successful team."

Brighton are now expected to loan out Fenelon to another lower-league side.
