Chelsea fans given lengthy football banning orders for Paris Metro incident

Four Chelsea fans are issued with lengthy football banning orders for their roles in racially abusing and shoving a man off the Paris Metro back in February.

Chelsea fans Richard Barklie, Josh Parsons and William Simpson have each been given five-year football banning orders for their roles in racially abusing and shoving a man off the Paris Metro.

Fellow supporter Jordan Munday has been handed a three-year football banning order for his part in the incident, which took place before Chelsea's match against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on February 17.

The incident came to light after video footage went viral earlier this year.

All four men, who have always denied accusations of racism, were fighting an application by the Metropolitan Police to issue them with football banning orders.

Former police offer Barklie, 50, admitted that he pushed Souleymane Sylla off the train, but insisted that he was protecting himself from the commuter.

"I think he had tried to get on first and then he tried to get on again, but by that stage he was shouting," he said. "It's not clear here but I've seen other footage and it's more clear he was shouting and there was spray coming from his mouth.

"I did push him – I put my hands up to stop him getting into the space where I was standing. From my perception there were others behind me trying to get towards Mr Sylla and I felt myself getting pushed forward by the momentum."

The victim was invited to attend a Chelsea match at Stamford Bridge following the incident, but he declined the offer.
