Mark Sampson is in line to receive a payoff of around £80,000 from the Football Association, although he could double that if successful with an unfair dismissal case.

The Football Association will reportedly pay Mark Sampson around £80,000 after dismissing him from his role as the England Women's manager.

The 34-year-old was given his marching orders earlier this week after FA chief executive Martin Glenn acted on a 2015 safeguarding report relating to his time at Bristol Academy.

According to The Mirror, however, Sampson is in line to pocket close to £160,000 if he launches - and wins - a legal case for unfair dismissal against the governing body.

It is claimed that the FA could therefore act by paying off the two years that were left to run on the Welshman's contract before his sacking.

Sampson has previously been cleared of racism, harassment and bullying allegations made by former England player Eni Aluko.
