Faye White hails England Women boss Mark Sampson

Former England Women's skipper Faye White insists that Mark Sampson's faith in each member of his squad is to thank for the Lionesses' run to the World Cup semi-finals

Former England Women's captain Faye White has praised manager Mark Sampson for breathing new life into the side.

The Lionesses roared into the semi-finals of the Women's World Cup by beating hosts Canada 2-1 in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Third-choice goalkeeper Carly Telford is the only player yet to have been given a run out, and White believes that this strength in depth is to thank for England's run to the final four.

"From the start Mark said he did not want to be a one-trick pony and he wanted to use his full squad," she told Sky Sports News. "He's believed in every player. It just shows the depth England have now.

"Over the years that's been building and building but to be able to change that keeps the other team guessing. What are they going to do? Who are they going to bring on? What are the threats going to be?

"He's obviously done his homework but he's still relatively inexperienced as an international manager."

England will take on current holders Japan in Wednesday's semi-final.
